Renee and Sean’s Pre-Wedding and Family Shoot

Renee and Sean’s pre-wedding shoot was a family affair -with the delightful Connor and Cian joining us for a fun family afternoon out in a local Northampton park. Karen came along too to entertain the kids while I took some pictures of Mum and Dad. The result was a fab collection of pictures that are destined for a gorgeous Jorgensen album and an equally super multi-picture frame. Here’s a few of my favourite pictures from the album.

Baby Oliver Wilson

It was a delight to meet baby Ollie almost a year to the day since we photographed his mum and dad’s wedding [link takes you to our old blog]. Ollie’s a lovely relaxed baby who like his mum and dad seemed to enjoy having his photos taken. Photographing young babies in an inexact science – you never know when they’ll need a feed, a change or a sleep. Ollie managed all three several times during our session which is why I always prefer to photograph babies at home. I don’t know how the production-line studios manage with fixed time slots for baby shoots. I always allow half a day for them and usually need it.

It was great to meet Tory and Shane again and to spend time with a precious new family. Can’t wait for them to come to the studio later this month to see their photos. Meanwhile here is a sneak preview of a few favourites.

Helen and Doug’s Wedding at Coltsfoot Country Retreat

Take one gorgeous couple, obviously and completely in love. Mix in a fabulous venue and a glorious spring day. Garnish with a beautiful Ian Stuart gown, a pair of killer Louboutins and a blue theme complete with a bouquet of bluebells. Result? A set of wedding photographs that even if I say it myself is one of our best ever.

If you’ve seen Helen and Doug’s pre-wedding photographs (over on my old blog here) you won’t be surprised that this collection features some really cool bride and groom shots, only a few of which I’m sharing here (need some surprises for the viewing session!). If you like this style of wedding photography you need to be talking to us! Even if you’re married come and have a Love the Dress shoot and create some images with style :-)

Helen and Doug are away for a month so it’s going to be a while before they can see their pictures. So these are sneak previews. Hope you enjoy them guys and have a fab honeymoon!

Charlotte and Suj’s Engagement Shoot at Woburn

Charlotte and Suj are getting married at Woburn later this year and decided they’d like to have their pre-wedding shoot there too. That was fine with us – the area around The Sculpture Gallery at Woburn has so many fabulous locations for photographs that you can barely scratch the surface on a wedding day. It was a beautiful spring day for a walk around the grounds with a couple obviously very much in love. We got some great photographs, here’s a few favourites:

Nicky and Phil’s Pre Wedding Shoot

Nicky and Phil are getting married next month at Northampton Catholic Cathedral. Their reception will be at Woburn Abbey’s Sculpture Gallery, one of our favourite venues that was recently featured on Masterchef! Their wedding is real soon now so I thought it about time that I posted this selection of photographs from their pre-wedding shoot last month. Pre-wedding shoots are always great fun and a great way to relax and get used to working together before the wedding day. Nicky and Phil’s was no exception. We’re really looking forward to photographing their wedding!

Here’s a selection from Nicky and Phil’s collection of their favourite images:

Clare and Chris’s Wedding at Rushton Hall – Sneak Previews

Clare and Chris were married last month at Rushton church had their reception at nearby Rushton Hall. We’d been looking forward to this wedding for months because Clare and Chris are such a wonderful couple to spend time with and so very much in love.

Rushton Hall is one of our favourite wedding venues, especially for a winter wedding when there is a good chance that the weather will mean most of the photos being taken indoors. We were hoping that Clare and Chris would have a dry day, especially because they had a beautiful horse and carriage and it’s a lovely walk between Rushton Church and Rushton Hall when the weather is fine.

Heavy rain was forecast, but as luck would have it the rain stayed away until 3pm so it was dry for the church ceremony and Clare and Chris’s arrival back at the hall. We weren’t able to do many pictures outside, but that’s no problem because we had all our special lights to allow us to take fabulous pictures indoors.

Clare and Chris dressed the pavilion with drapes all around the walls and fabulous blue uplighters. It looked the best we’d ever seen it.

The photos are just a sneak preview because Clare and Chris haven’t seen their pictures yet. We’ve kept some of our favourites as surprises for them :-)

Please do take a second to leave a comment – we’d really appreciate it!

Enjoy the photos!

Baby Photography at Home – Ethan Mayo

Mother and baby photograph taken at home in Ampthill

I love this photograph. It captures a special moment between mother and son that you rarely see in photographs.

I’ve said before that we think baby photography is much better done at home rather than in a studio (even though we have one) and this photo shows you why. Just simple window light in a bedroom and a lovely moment that you simply wouldn’t get in a staged studio session.

The photographs in this collection were taken in one session of no more than an hour or so before Ethan decided that the shoot was over and dozed off. In that time I’d taken a collection of fifty or so pictures from which Charlotte and Dave have chosen these twenty for their album.

Baby Photography – Lewis

I was thrilled to be asked back by Rhiannon and Andrew to photograph their new baby Lewis at their home near Northampton. I photographed his brother James a couple of years ago so this brought back great memories and it was fab to catch up.

Although we have a studio I much prefer to photograph babies at home. The photographs are more natural and it’s less stressful for baby and parents alike. I always allow plenty of time so it’s no problem if baby needs a change or a feed.

This is a sneak preview of a few photographs because it was only part one of a two part shoot. Tomorrow I’m back to photograph James and Lewis together. Should be fun!

Wildlife photography

Before we were full-time photographers Karen and I loved to spend our holidays photographing wildlife and landscapes. And although we now spend our working days photographing people and places, we still have a passion for wildlife photography that we indulge as often as we can. Recently we were invited to provide a selection of images for a new fine art photography web site. Lola (our editor) spent several days sorting through our images, selecting her favourites then re-editing them. From Lola’s collection Karen selected ten images for submission and we expect them to be published and be available for purchase any day now (link to follow).

Here’s the ten (click on a thumbnail to see a bigger version):

How Much Should You Spend on Wedding Photography?

That’s a rhetorical question. There are various rule-of-thumb but only you can decide where photography fits into your priorities for your wedding day. As a general rule you get what you pay for. For us, a wedding is about a seven days work, and this is reflected in the cost of our services. Most couples can see where the money goes when they see our albums.

I recently read a great article on the cost of wedding photography that explains the issues very clearly. Here is the link.
